Great Barrier Island - School Holiday program: Mural workshop
During the September school holidays I was invited to work alongside some of the children and youth from the island. With input from the members of the Marae, I created a design to represent the youth, the iwi and the local fauna and flora.
During the two day workshop the children were given the opportunity to trace elements of the design onto cardboard, using a VR headset to assist them with creating the outlines. The older teens were then tasked with creating stencils from these designs, while the younger children along with some of the youth, roller painted the base coat colours onto the wall.
I traced the overall design onto the painted wall the next day and the older children, teens and youth had the opportunity to fill in the artwork colours using spraypaint, stencils and paint and brushes. The end result stands out against the natural surroundings, adding a splash of colour to the playground and basketball court.

Teachers Professional Development
TEACHERS PD - As part of the professional development offered towards teachers, this workshop is designed to help ordinary teachers unlock their own creative potential, up-skill their technical ability and put into practice various techniques and styles with their students during their artistic endeavour's. The workshop deals with the basics of drawing, as well as working through a variety of different artistic interpretations, art therapy and helping students through their concept, to design and through to interpretation of style and techniques.
How to paint ...
I can do various types of workshops or classes, from one on one tutoring, to working with larger groups of children. My most recent workshops includes working with four groups of approx. 25 children to learn how to paint some of New Zealands most iconic birds. To protect the privacy of the children involved with these workshops, not many photographs are taken during these sessions.
