Auckland Mural Artist and Photographer
From a young age I started expressing myself creatively. My work has gone through various transformations and transitions and can be very client specific and personalised according to each clients’ story. I see myself as a visual storyteller and adapt my work to the environment an art piece might be used for, incorporating cultural aspects of the surroundings and people into my art.
I have been practising art in New Zealand since moving here with my family in 2017. Growing up in South Africa provided unique opportunities to give expression to my passions and after becoming a mother I studied professional photography, eventurally specialising in family portraits, maternity and new-born portraits. Once in New Zealand I started returning to my first love – painting – and did so by painting a mural for my daughters’ newly opened school library. From there I have continued to receive regular inquiries from clients for large scale murals to tell their stories or simply to beautify their spaces. In 2020 I submitted a digital artwork to Auckland Transport and was chosen to have my art displayed on one of their trains in their “Heads up, Ears out, Trains about” project, promoting railway safety. You can view a video about this project here.
When painting murals, I use mostly acrylics, as well as spray-paint and occasionally my airbrush.
For my digital art I use a combination of ProCreate, Photoshop and Illustrator.
My inspiration for my art comes from the world around me - nature and people. When working on a commission I use the stories of the people contracting my services and incorporate their messages, themes and objectives into my artwork.
When I am not busy creating art, you can find me sipping a glass of wine whilst cooking up a scrumptious meal for my family. I have an amazingly supportive husband and four incredible daughters, who inspire me and motivate me to continue giving my best efforts. They are my worst critics and most enthusiastic supporters.
Other activities I enjoy doing includes taking a walk in nature, reading a good book or watching a movie, playing piano, going to church, having meaningful conversations, playing board or card games, or simply just 'being'.
