Henderson North Primary
As part of the Creatives in Schools project, I teamed up with the students and Art teacher from Henderson North Primary School to create multiple murals representing the diverse cultural make-up of their community. Akonga and kaiako had the opportunity to bring along taonga from home that represented something special to their whanau or heritage and we incorporated these items or symbolism of these items into the larger mural. The larger mural was made up of 6 large panels that fit together to create the final artwork.
To enhance student participation we then created three more mural panels representing symbolisms from the larger Pasifika and Maori communities, utilising handprints from the students to fill in the colours on masked out panels.

Glen Eden Intermediate school
Another project for 2023 was creating a bathroom mural for the girls bathroom at Glen Eden Intermediate, as well as creating mural panels to go around the school library.
The student participation in this project was incredibly good, with each student creating their own large mural panel representing a favourite story book.
The collaboration between students was impressive, with fast finishers jumping in to help those working more meticulously.
The bathroom mural was completed in bright colours and with each student free-handing their floral designs straight onto the wall, allowing them to express themselves in a more spontaneous way than the hours of designing and planning that went along with the book cover panels.

West Harbour School - Auckland - House Panels
I was approached with the idea to have artworks created for the different colours of the newly founded Houses. Each house was represented by it's own colour. I worked collaboratively with the senior leadership to choose a 'mascot' for each House and used this to be incorporated into the design for each art panel. Orange - Rangi (representing the sky) - New Zealand Falcon. Silver - Waitakere (representing the mountains) - Kokako. Green - Tiriwa (representing forests) - Tuatara. Yellow - Whenua (representing fields and valleys) New Zealand Ram. Purple - Manutewhau (representing streams) Long finned eel. Blue - Waitemata (representing oceans) Hector's dolphin.
West Harbour School
Library
In 2018 I was volunteered to create a mural for the opening of the schools' new library, in honor of one of their beloved teachers who sadly passed away. I gathered information about some of the favorite books and characters and created a design including another beloved character from the school - the school dog, who also sadly passed away recently. Mrs. Titi can be found sitting atop a row of books, reading to some of the students around her, as characters from the various stories are climbing up stacks of books, flying around, reading themselves and more.
Glen Eden Intermediate School
Class room murals
Glen Eden Intermediate requested art works that would represent the diversity of their students, with a specific aim towards their Pasifika students. I collaboratively worked with one of the school members to come up with themes for the murals, and then worked out placements and designs to fulfil the brief. The designs were created to be stand alone square artworks, or joined together rectangular art pieces.
Glen Eden Intermediate - Boys bathrooms
Artworks were requested to go onto the main inside wall of the boys bathroom, to help prevent vandalism and enforce positive role models with inspirational quotes and favorite sports and activities. We decided to use silhouettes to allow for more inclusion and bring across the message that it could be any one of the boys achieving these goals or participating in these activities. A school member supplied the inspirational quotes to go along with the imagery and the bright backgrounds was used to draw attention.
